Congratulations to the 2015 MICPA Award Winners
MICPA members who make a difference in their communities and the profession are being recognized for their efforts. Association members and partners are selected in a variety of prestigious categories, a few of which include Outstanding Visionary, Legislative Impact, Diversity & Inclusion, Public Service and Women to Watch. Honorees will receive their awards at the 2015 MICPA Awards Dinner on September 30 in West Bloomfield. In addition, Doug Roosa, CPA, CGMA, the Association’s outgoing chair of the board, will be recognized for his commitment and leadership over the past year. A full list of winners is available here.

MICPA Members, Treasury Work Together to Address Issues
MICPA members are making a difference in Lansing through workgroups created to help the Michigan Department of Treasury address challenges affecting taxpayers and practitioners. The workgroups are tackling issues related to communications with taxpayers, Power of Attorney processes, and Michigan Treasury Online. Last Call: MICPA Career Fair Is This Friday
Accounting students and job seekers can still register at no charge for Friday’s Career Fair in Livonia to meet with firms from across the state that are hiring interns and full-time employees. A new IRS Penalties at a Glance webpage has information practitioners can use to learn about penalty relief and determine whether their clients qualify for penalty abatement.

The page highlights penalty relief including Reasonable Cause; Administrative Waiver and First Time Penalty Abatement; and Statutory Exception.

Check Online Resource for Updated Information about the Health Coverage Tax Credit
provides updated guidance for taxpayers who may now be eligible for the HCTC under the Trade Preferences Extension Act of 2015, including what’s needed to claim HCTC for 2014 and what qualifies for 2014, 2015 and 2016 health coverage. Updates and guidance will be posted to as they become available.
