Are you in charge of an upcoming program for your school’s accounting club or Beta Alpha Psi chapter meeting? Make it easy on yourself and call us. MAF Scholarship Application Coming Soon
The Michigan Accountancy Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to fifth/graduate year accounting students. The application for 2016 scholarships will be on the MAF website in early November.

Congrats to Educators and Student on MICPA Awards
MICPA members who make a difference were recognized for their efforts at the annual 2015 MICPA Awards Dinner in September. Congratulations to Jahnvi Patel, a recent University of Michigan-Dearborn grad, who was honored with the Outstanding Student Award for her involvement in the MICPA. Louis Petro, Lawrence Technological University, received the Accounting Teaching Excellence Award. The Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year Award went to Kenneth Krause of Fitzgerald High School in Warren. A full list of MICPA award winners is available here.

AICPA Foundation Awards Minority Doctoral Fellowship to MSU Student
A Michigan State University student is among 22 deserving scholars selected to receive the AICPA Minority Doctoral Fellowship. The Fellowship provides $12,000 each to full-time minority accounting scholars who have demonstrated the potential to become college or university accounting educators. The Fellowship is open to ethnic minorities who have obtained or plan to pursue a CPA license. Additional requirements are available online. If you’re interested, the 2016-17 application will be available in March 2016, with an application deadline of May 15, 2016. 

Tax Planning: College Tax Credits for 2015 and Years Ahead
With the end of the year just around the corner, it’s a good time to see if you or your parents will qualify for either of two college tax credits or other education-related tax benefits when you file your 2015 federal income tax returns.
