Governor Signs Expanded Definition of “Attest” Bill
Governor Rick Snyder recently signed House Bill 5192 (now PA 76 of 2016) to bring Michigan into compliance with the AICPA's Uniform Accountancy Act (UAA) through an expanded definition of "attest" in Michigan statute. The MICPA government relations team worked closely with primary sponsor Chris Afendoulis, CPA (R-Grand Rapids Twp.) and the three other CPA sponsors of the bill – Earl Poleski, Paul Clemente and Martin Howrylak – on this legislation, which ensures that only CPAs can utilize professional standards when performing attest engagements.

Committee Addresses Michigan Tax Tribunal
The MICPA’s lobby firm Public Affairs Associates reports that the House Tax Policy Committee began hearing testimony on HB 5578, a bill aimed at clarifying the criteria used by the Michigan Tax Tribunal during an assessment dispute, aimed primarily at the use of comparable properties. READ MORE
