Treasury Updates PPT Website; Hosts Google Hangouts to Assist Municipalities
The Michigan Department of Treasury updated the personal property tax reimbursement website to include information regarding the 2016 PPT reimbursements, including this chart showing the forms required for 2016.

To assist municipalities with the completion of Form 5448, Treasury will host two Google Hangouts on July 13 or 14 (from 1-2:30 pm). To join the Google Hangouts, you will need a gmail email address and preregister your gmail address with Treasury. To preregister, email WhaleyB@michigan.gov and indicate your gmail address and the session(s) you will be attending. Treasury will then send instructions on how to join the Google Hangouts. If you have questions pertaining to Google Hangouts, please contact Brittasia Whaley at 517.335.3813.

Michigan Treasury Issues Letters on Deficit Elimination Plans and Auditing Procedures Reports

Michigan Tax on Paid Self-Insured Claims Allowed to Stand
For the second time, a federal appeals court has upheld a 2011 Michigan law that imposes a one percent state tax on paid health care claims for self-insured and other employers, reports Business Insurance, a publication of Crain Communications. READ MORE (registration required)

The National Taxpayer Advocate released a mid-year report to Congress that contains extended excerpts from her ongoing Public Forums on Taxpayer Needs and Preferences, presents a review of the 2016 filing season, and identifies the priority issues the Taxpayer Advocate Service will address during the upcoming fiscal year. COSO Releases ERM Framework Proposal; Comments Due By September 30
The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) released a proposal to its updated enterprise risk management (ERM) framework that would update the definition of ERM and emphasize the link between risk and value. Comments due by September 30.  READ MORE
