New IRS Online Tool Expands Access to Information on Tax-Exempt Organizations
The IRS introduced a new online tool designed to provide faster, easier access to publicly available information about exempt organizations. The new Tax Exempt Organization Search (TEOS) makes images of newly-filed 990 forms available for the first time and provides access to more types of information than previously available using the former EO Select Check system.

Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead, but You Can
Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 6-12. While we worry more about tornadoes than hurricanes in Michigan, it’s a good reminder to be prepared for natural disasters. Important steps include updating emergency plans; creating electronic copies of documents; and documenting valuables. The IRS has a specialist trained to handle disaster-related issues (call 866-562-5227). Additionally, the AICPA and the American Red Cross offer an online resource guide, “Disasters and Financial Planning.”

2018 ESA Statements Now Available
Michigan 2018 Essential Services Assessment (ESA) statements have been generated and are now available to all taxpayers whose Combined Document (Form 5278) information was forwarded to the Department of Treasury by the local assessor. ESA statements may be accessed via Michigan Treasury Online (MTO). For instructions on accessing and navigating MTO and submitting electronic ESA payments, visit the ESA website.
