Local Units of Government Submitting Plans to Ensure Payment of Promised Retirement Benefits
More than 100 local units of government will be developing plans to ensure the retirement benefits they promised to their employees and retirees are paid in the future, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury. The corrective action plans are required within 180 days from local units with an underfunded pension plan, retirement health care plan or both as defined in the Protecting Local Government Retirement and Benefits Act.

GASB Establishes New Implementation Guidance to Assist Stakeholders With Recent Pronouncements
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) issued implementation guidance containing questions and answers intended to clarify, explain or elaborate on certain GASB Statements. Implementation Guide No. 2018-1 addresses new questions about application of the Board’s standards on pensions, other postemployment benefits, the statistical section, regulatory reporting and tax abatement disclosures. It also includes amendments to previously issued implementation guidance on relevant topics.
