Without question, this year has been a challenge for everyone. In our constant quest to improve, MICPA CEO Bob Doyle asks MICPA members to offer their feedback and let us know how we can better serve you in this challenging time, and always.
Juliette Antwan, president of the Michigan Chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and Global IT Audit Manager at Aptiv spoke with me more about Hispanic Heritage Month, which is recognized from September 15 – October 15 each year and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
This year has been a pivotal time for us, yet with new challenges come new opportunities to grow, learn and contribute. As we recognize the efforts of our members for all they do within their communities I, and the entire MICPA, are proud to welcome new leadership into the board as they take up the baton from their predecessors.
I can’t believe it’s already September! I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy your summer despite the COVID-19 crisis. It has flown by for me as I continue to transition into my new role and listen and learn from our members.
Last Tuesday (July 28, 2020) I had the great opportunity to testify before the Senate Regulatory Reform Committee to express the CPA profession’s concerns with Senate Bill 40. The hearing was held in the Capitol, utilizing appropriate COVID safety precautions. I love visiting Michigan’s Capitol! It’s such a cool building that is full of history. I always get excited walking into the building, from my first field trip tour in 3rd grade to the awesome opportunity I had in high school to participate in a model legislative session on the Senate floor as part of the Boys’ State program. This hearing took place in the original room where the Michigan Supreme Court met; so cool!
The onset and disruption stemming from COVID-19 has reminded us that our teams are our most important and valuable assets. Without them we would be unable to provide services, manufacture products or operate effectively.
As all Michigan CPAs know, the deadline for earning your 40-hours of continuing education is June 30, 2020. THIS DATE WILL NOT BE EXTENDED!
We’ve continued to have the opportunity to partner with many different organizations to support each other and businesses throughout the state of Michigan. Our partnership with the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM), the State of Michigan, Rocket Mortgage and DTE Energy where we put together our resources and launch the mipaycheckprotection.com website was great.
This Wednesday, May 13, I finally have the opportunity to speak with you, our members! I’ve been looking forward to this since I started at the MICPA. Our annual Members Advisory Symposium has always been a great way to connect with our members, offering excellent education with an agenda of awesome speakers, and providing an update on your association.
We want to do our small part in recognizing these people and companies that are part of the MICPA who are doing awesome things. Please help us #AcCountTheWays that CPAs and others in the accounting profession are making a difference as we work together to fight COVID-19.
Over the last week, we’ve had the opportunity to partner with several great organizations to help small businesses here in Michigan take full advantage of the CARES Act - Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
Hi, I’m Bob Doyle, the new President & CEO of the MICPA. I’ve decided to start this blog so I can “speak” directly with you, our members, along with other stakeholders within the Michigan accounting community.
