Happy Tuesday MICPA! This past Saturday we marked the first day of Spring, with our days steadily becoming longer, brighter and warmer. The earth is waking up all around us, new life blooming in all directions reminding us that nothing is permanent, and extremes must at some point inevitably regress toward the mean. That in life, balance works to prevail and that we must also work to find that balance in our own lives.

I had the pleasure of discussing this same topic (the importance of balance) with MICPA member Dominic Ortiz, CPA, CGMA about how the path forward is sometimes found along the way to an entirely different destination. Dominic’s story is truly inspiring, and I fully agree with him that the CPA credential offers a wealth of opportunity that make it much more than a job. We make connections through our work, travel, and gain experiences that other professionals in other industries simply do not.

Dominic also shared his insight on the role of visibility in making the profession more diverse, equitable and inclusive. The need for a grassroots effort that puts the CPA credential out there, explains its opportunities and shows its power to empower. Indeed, actions speak louder than words and I encourage our members to get out there and get your hands dirty making a difference in your community and in the lives of young people uncertain about their future or their options.

As we continue to get to know our members better this year, I invite all of you to watch my recent conversation with Dominic and share your reactions and input on our social channels.
