Honoring Our Profession & Our Members

Our second annual Michigan CPA Appreciation Day is on the horizon! At the MICPA, the next month is all about celebrating our profession and cultivating the next generation of talent.

At a time when our profession has never been more necessary – and our work has never been more important – the ongoing shortage of qualified CPAs is a reminder not only of our value, but of our responsibility to share our story with others both inside and outside the profession. Inspiring the next generation of CPAs is essential for advancing the profession and central to our organization’s broader mission.

That’s why this month is not just about appreciating our members and the amazing work they do, but also about amplifying the positive impact CPAs have on the community, on businesses and other organizations and on the economy.

Here's how we're celebrating our members, and leaning into our collective efforts to advocate, collaborate and educate this fall:

Inspiring the Next Generation

Our members are committed to building professional awareness and getting tomorrow's leaders excited about the possibilities of accounting.

Overcoming remote barriers during the pandemic, we launched our Student Accounting Academy to share digital resources about accounting and business with Michigan’s high school classrooms. Now, we're going back to school! MICPA Board Chair Michelle Randall, CPA, CGMA, professor of accounting at Schoolcraft College, recently visited two high schools in Birmingham to discuss the benefits of a career in the field – and that’s just the start!

We’re calling on you, MICPA members, to volunteer to share your wisdom and experience to inspire students. We have more than 30 Michigan high schools interested in hosting a CPA speaker already, and that number will only continue to grow. Many presentations will be scheduled between November 7-11, dubbed ‘CPA Week’, in a joint effort between the AICPA and more than 30 CPA state societies.

Our members do such extraordinary work and all of us here at the MICPA not only understand and appreciate that work, but we are also deeply passionate about making sure that your stories are shared. I know that so many of you have seen your hard work validated and know firsthand how impactful that CPA credential has been in your professional journey. Part of our ongoing focus is to illuminate the opportunities that the profession provides and help the next generation see the career path of a CPA as accessible, attainable and attractive. Your commitment to volunteer will help make that happen and inspire others who have the potential to begin their own journey and become valuable new members of our professional community. In the process, we can help not just inspire but empower, planting seeds that will lead to successful careers and financial stability for future generations.

Contact Laura Bullard, our student engagement and pipeline leader, at lbullard@micpa.org for details on how you can get involved in presentations throughout the school year.

Celebrating Impact

From engaging on social media to empowering students, there are many ways to make this a month to remember.

As we prepare for our annual awards ceremony, we're celebrating the many ways CPAs help Michigan thrive. This year, we're combining two signature events for double the impact. We'll be coming together to learn, connect and recognize extraordinary talent at Accelerate and Celebrate. This two-for-one event includes both a live and simulcast conference where attendees can hone their leadership skills, followed by a networking reception and celebration dinner to honor the achievements of today’s leaders while supporting the future of the profession and its promising young leaders.

Celebrate will also help support the Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF), focused on providing scholarships to fifth-year accounting students, being a source of industry knowledge for college and university educators and introducing high school students to the CPA profession. Learn more about MAF’s work and consider a contribution today.

Mark Your Calendar

We'll spend the entire week of November 7 through 11 highlighting the contributions of MICPA members, seizing opportunities to learn and grow as financial professionals, and letting the world know about the impact that CPAs have on companies and communities across the country and around the world.

  • Follow MICPA on social media as we highlight members and their career stories. Join the conversation by sharing your "WHY" on becoming a CPA using #CPAWeek2022.
  • November 9, 2022: Hone your skills, honor today's leaders and pave the way for rising stars. Register for Accelerate and Celebrate today.
  • November 10, 2022: Spread joy on International Accounting Day and the MICPA's second annual CPA Appreciation Day by tagging a CPA on social media to celebrate their awesome impact. Use #CPAAppreciation and #CPAWeek2022 and MICPA will re-share.

We hope you'll join us this fall as we celebrate you – our dedicated members – and come together to inspire the young leaders of tomorrow.
