Michigan State University – Master of Science in Accounting Program

As of August 2023, fewer than 60 accounting programs nationwide had earned a federal STEM designation, and Michigan State University’s Master of Science in Accounting program is now one of them. This designation results from a rigorous two-year effort to update Classification of Instructional Program codes (the taxonomy of academic programs developed by the U.S. Department of Education), which involved reviewing and revising course descriptions, making catalog changes, and ensuring alignment with STEM program criteria. A key aspect was integrating advanced technology and data analytics throughout the curriculum, reflecting the evolving demands of the profession. The extensive work positions MSU at the forefront of accounting education, making it especially attractive to prospective students, including those from international backgrounds.
