MICPA continues to work directly with the Michigan Department of Treasury (Treasury) over member concerns with taxpayer notices, return processing and customer service challenges tied to the state’s new individual income tax system.

In a letter to MICPA members, Treasury recognized these concerns and acknowledged the additional administrative burden and taxpayer frustration many firms have experienced.

According to Treasury, actions currently underway include:

  • Updates to the Solution Tracker to monitor known issues, resolutions and status updates.

  • Ongoing system corrections and processing changes based on practitioner feedback.

  • Implementation of a Request for Call Back feature within Michigan Treasury eServices, with a goal of responding within three business days.

  • A forthcoming meeting with MICPA and Michigan Tax and Accounting Professionals to review concerns and discuss short- and long-term solutions.;

Over the past several weeks, MICPA members have played a critical role in identifying these concerns. One of the strengths of MICPA membership is having a collective voice. When members identify challenges, MICPA can elevate them, advocate on behalf of the profession and work toward meaningful solutions.

MICPA’s advocacy in action will continue amplifying our member’s voices in discussions with Treasury and ensure your concerns are heard and addressed. Updates will be available through MICPA news and real-time conversation through MICPA Connect
